Wireless Internet
T-Mobile has entered the home internet arena with a unique offering that looks to fill the gaps that other internet service providers can’t fill.
Almost everyone is familiar with Wi-Fi, whether as a passing term for internet access, or as a technical term used to describe a wireless network broadcast by a router. Either way, Wi-Fi has become almost a requirement for any modern household, for school, for work, for entertainment. But not everyone has access to a reliable internet connection. Often, especially in more rural areas, internet service providers (ISP) simply haven’t laid the groundwork for residents to be able to tap into an internet circuit. Residents in developed cities can still run into similar issues because, for example, their particular neighborhood or residential area is older. The LegetteTech office has even struggled with finding reliable internet access; Spectrum did not meet our needs, and when we reached out to other ISPs with faster circuits, we were quoted $40,000 just to lay the cabling. This goes to show that despite the requirement for reliable internet access that our daily lives impose on us, it can be a struggle to find it.
So what do we do? Most people who find themselves in these circumstances end up relying on a smartphone or other device with a wireless data signal, whether to access the internet directly, or to create a hotspot (the same concept as a Wi-Fi signal) for other devices to connect to the internet. However, this method has its limitations. While it may work for an individual, it’s not a solution for an entire household, and especially not for a business. A new question then arises—where’s the “but” in all of this?
It’s right here.
But thanks to T-Mobile, the smartphone service provider, a new solution is available. Combining the latest and greatest in mobile network speeds with the power and output of a standard internet gateway, T-Mobile has been able to present to customers a new method of receiving fast and reliable home internet access.
The T-Mobile Wi-Fi Gateway modem-router is able to receive 4G/4G LTE/5G signals from nearby towers and convert them into a powerful Wi-Fi signal to which any nearby device can connect. This process is the exact same one that a smartphone uses to create a hotspot, but with much more robust and dedicated hardware. The Wi-Fi Gateway pictured above is the very one that LegetteTech uses for its own office, so we can attest to the speed and reliability of the device compared to our previous Spectrum service. For those more technical minds out there, we were even able to connect our gateway into a Linksys Velop Wi-Fi mesh system to ensure full Wi-Fi coverage for the building, which goes to show that it is a versatile little device.

While this device may be no replacement for a high speed circuit, such as fiber, it is a perfect solution for anyone who has previously found themselves without a hope for home internet service. Feel free to reach out to LegetteTech with any questions about this device, especially if you feel that it is a solution for you and your home or business.
